There are 3 different types of evaluations which will be done throughout the year with the grade 4 class this year. The first are diagnostic evaluations. These will be done by the teachers to evaluate the baseline, or level, that the class finds itself before undertaking a new topic. This is helpful for the teacher to understand what students might already know, and where students might need help, regarding a particular subject to be learned. The marks received will not affect the student's report card.
The second are formative evaluations. These types of evaluations will be done by the teachers to make sure that the student is on the right track with a certain topic. The marks received will not affect the student's report card. However, it is always important for a student to study for these types of tests! Many times, this will be done by the teacher to help prepare a student for the final test. In the case of some of Mme Mathieu's dictées, these are done to help the student anticipate french vocabulary words and verbs that will be commonly used in a unit like science or art.
The final type of evaluations are summative evaluations. The marks received on these types of evaluations will affect the report card. Students will be notified if the test is summative, and it will also be noted on the blog!
We hope that this information is helpful to you! We will ensure to let you know when an important test is coming up!
