French Update

This week was a very interesting week! In science with Mme Mathieu and the help of the interactive smartboard, the students went over a list of vocabulary words to help them with their science assignments in the future. This will also help them with the excursion tomorrow. At 10:30 the class will be going to the park accross the street, and students will be given a worksheet where they are asked to find different communities and habitats of plants and animals at the park. Information found will be shared as a class next week.

We have also begun working on social sciences, learning the provinces and territories in Canada, as well as their capitals. Yesterday we started looking at the different physical regions in Canada, and today students were given time in the computer lab to research the provinces found in these physical regions, important facts about the landscape of these (forests, rocks, fertile earth, etc), the relief (elevation of land surface), and important tourist sites or geographical sites found in these regions. More time will be given for research in the lab next week (Tuesday).

With regards to French, today students were given a verb activity reviewing ER, IR, and RE verbs, in preparation for their final verb test next Friday. This is to be completed in homework and will be corrected in class tomorrow. Finally, a sheet of important French sentences was also handed out (with English translation). This is a list of common French sentences that the students should all know from previous years. On Tuesday, October 16th they will be tested on their knowledge of the French sentences, as well as pronunciation (during their social science research time, students will be called individually and asked 3 to say 3 of the English sentences in French). I will go over correct pronunciation with them tomorrow. The list of sentences is posted in the French section of the blog.

Please check the homework and French board for more information! Things are really starting to move forward with the class and students are advancing very well!

Mme Mathieu
