Good afternoon everyone!

Today we went over the latest CASI which was based on a story called "Island". I was very impressed with the improvement that the class made as a whole! We still have several things we need to work on but the more we practice, the better we will get. For example, explaining the main idea of a story. Several students struggled with this concept on the CASI but did very well with this question on their Reading Response.

Today I have sent home the latest CASI as well as the Reading Response worksheet to get signed. The Reading Response worksheet is double sided. The first side was completed before Christmas and was based on the story "The Relatives Came". The second side was completed yesterday and was based on the story "Jeremiah Learns to Read". I was very impressed with the improvement most students demonstrated on this worksheet. The second reading response is the most recent form of reading assessment that we have completed and it will be used (in conjunction with the earlier assessments) for report cards.

I reassured students today that their mark on the report card will not be based solely on their CASI. It will also take into consideration their most recent work and how they have improved.

Yesterday in Math, I had the students complete a few questions involving conversion (mm to cm, etc.). The majority of the class had said that they had done this before and that it was easy. However, when I began marking these questions, I noticed that most students were very confused. Today, I handed out several practice pages for students to do at home. I have told the class that I do not want to see these pages so they are not to be handed in. I will post the answers for these worksheets on the blog next Wednesday so that students can check their work. I will also post more practice worksheets so you can practice more at home.

This weekend, I will post a class calendar for January. This will have important dates on it and will be updated as needed.
