Measuring Time Quiz
Today we started the Measuring Time Quiz. Unfortunately, most students were not able to finish it today so I have told them that they will have more time tomorrow afternoon. I reminded the class today that this is just a Quiz and it is just to show me how everyone is doing. If everyone does really well, then that means we will be able to move on, otherwise, we will need to continue working with time.
Literature Circles
Tomorrow I will be explaining our Literature Circle groups for the novel Holes. These groups will consist of 5 to 6 students and students will each be required to complete their individual tasks. On the dates that will be going home tomorrow, students will need to bring to school their completed job for that time period.
Mad Minute
About 2 weeks ago we started doing a Mad Minute right after lunch recess. Students know that they have 5 minutes to come into class, put their indoor shoes on, and be ready in their seats. After 5 minutes, I say "Go!" and start the timer (which is set for 1 minute). During this time, students need to answer as many multiplication questions as they can. We have not gone over multiplication yet this year but this is a great way for me to see what everyone already knows. The questions range from 0x1 to 12x12. I have asked students to work towards their own goal (which could be as simple as answering one more question than they did the day before) and I have given students a challenge. The challenge is, if they can answer between 30 and 40 (I haven't decided on the exact number yet) questions correctly, in one day, then they do not need to do Mad Minute anymore and they can sign their name on our Mad Minute Wall of Fame. I do not expect every student in my class to make it on the Wall of Fame by the end of June, I simply want them to improve as time goes on. I have already noticed an improvement in the number of correctly answered questions for most students. Keep up the great work everyone!
