The First Decade of My Life
Today we began research on the first decade of our lives. We brainstormed some examples of events that students could include on their time lines. This is what we came up with and my expectations for the first step of this project:
You will be making a time line representing the first decade of your life. You will need to include at least 10 events. These events can be things in your personal life as well as in the world.
What are some ideas for things you could include in your time line?
- first birthday
- first goal in hockey
- day you got your pet
- vacations
- first steps
- the last day of the penny (world event)
- etc.
I have told students that they may come up with more than 10 events while they are brainstorming but that they should try to keep it somewhat even between world events and personal events. For example, they could come up with 3 world events and 7 personal events, 5 world events and 5 personal event, or 5 world events and 10 personal events. I have asked students to try to keep it to somewhat happy events in their personal lives since these will be posted in class. As well, the world events should not involve weapons or inappropriate activities.
The deadline for submitting the brainstorming worksheet is Tuesday, February 26.
Literature Circles
I have sent home a package with the details about our class literature circles including the assigned readings, job descriptions, and deadlines. The first deadline is on Monday, February 25. I have told the class that if they wish, they can complete all 5 of their jobs before the deadlines. This will ensure that they can work it around their own schedule (not having to work on it one night if thy have hockey, dance, or some other commitment). I am hoping that we will be able to finish reading the novel before March Break so I have only assigned one or two chapters for each job but we will also be reading ahead during class.

Have a great weekend everyone!
